EASY DMSO TOPICAL PAIN RECIPE

Base Recipe:

  • Magnesium oil: Mix equal parts magnesium chloride flakes with distilled water (warm gently in a pot—never microwave). Stir until dissolved.
  • MSM: Add MSM flakes/powder (1–2 Tbsp per cup) to the warm magnesium solution—dissolves easily.
  • DMSO: Add equal parts (or less, e.g., 1:2 ratio for milder smell) pharmaceutical-grade DMSO.
  • Optional: Aloe/glycerin: Add a squirt of pure aloe vera gel or vegetable glycerin for soothing.
    *This shortens the shelf life of the product SIGNIFICANTLY to 1-4 weeks in the fridge. Leaving aloe/glycerin out of the equation gives the product a 3-6+ month shelf life. I opt not to use it. Aloe vera and glycerin feed bacteria and don’t add any significant advantage to the recipe.
  • Optional: 5–10 drops frankincense or other essential oil (anti-inflammatory).

Instructions:

  • Warm distilled water (not boiling), dissolve magnesium flakes + MSM.
  • Let cool slightly, add DMSO and aloe/glycerin.
  • Stir well, pour into glass dropper or roller bottle.
  • Store in a cool, dark place. Use within 1–2 months (shake before use).

Benefits of the Recipe 

  • Magnesium relaxes muscles, reduces pain/inflammation.
  • MSM provides sulfur for joint/tissue repair.
  • DMSO carries ingredients deep (great penetration).
  • Aloe/glycerin soothes skin, prevents dryness but shorten the life of the product – opt to add these ingredients separately.
  • Frankincense adds extra anti-inflammatory punch.

Safety Notes:

  • Always patch test on inner arm (DMSO can irritate sensitive skin).

  • Wintergreen – Strong analgesic (contains methyl salicylate, similar to aspirin).
  • Lavender – Calming, reduces pain perception.

Stability This DMSO Topical Pain Cream

The recipe (magnesium oil + DMSO + MSM + optional EOs is stable for 3-6+ months) Adding aloe vera or glycerin creates food for bacteria etc. so shelf life is much shorter.

Shelf Life & Stability

  • Realistic shelf life: 4–6 weeks refrigerated, possibly up to 2+ months if very clean and stored properly. Watch for changes in color, odor, consistency etc. 3-6+ months if aloe/glycerin are omitted.
