A lot of people worry that drinking distilled water (or hydrogen water made with distilled water) will “pull minerals out of your bones and teeth.”
That’s a myth, and here’s why:
- Distilled water is mineral-free, but once it hits your mouth and stomach it mixes instantly with saliva, food, and digestive juices that are already rich in electrolytes.
- Your blood and cells are tightly regulated—osmosis can’t just yank calcium or magnesium out of them. The body only loses minerals through urine, sweat, etc., the same way it does with any water.
- Decades of research on people drinking distilled water (including long-term studies on sailors and lab workers) show ZERO evidence of mineral deficiency caused by the water itself when diet is normal.
Hydrogen water? The tiny amount of H₂ gas added does absolutely nothing to change water’s ability to “grab” minerals—it’s still just clean water with an antioxidant bonus.
So yes—feel free to drink your pure distilled or HRW.
Just get your minerals the way you already do: real food, sea salt, ConcenTrace drops, shilajit, magnesium, etc.
They don’t have to be dissolved IN the water to be absorbed and used perfectly.
(And for anyone who hates the taste of mineral drops in their HRW—same here!—this is your permission slip to keep them separate)
